The festive season is finally here! As we all start winding down, planning family trips, and chasing a bit of holiday sun, it’s a great time to give your car some attention—especially if you’re heading out on a long-distance drive. A quick check now can save you a lot of stress later and ensure your journey is as smooth as the holiday vibes.
Here are a few handy tips to get you road-trip ready:
1. Give your tyres a once-over
Good tyres = good safety. Check your tread, make sure there are no cracks, and inflate them to the recommended pressure. And yes—make sure your spare is sorted too.
2. Make sure your battery is healthy
Hot weather can put extra strain on your battery. If it’s been a while since you last checked it, now’s the time.
3. Top up the essentials
Oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and even wiper fluid all play important roles in keeping things running smoothly. A quick top-up check can go a long way.
4. Lights and indicators
Do a quick walk-around and test your headlights, brake lights, hazards, and indicators. Visibility and communication on the road are key.
5. Don’t forget an emergency kit
Pack a first-aid kit, basic tools, torch, jumper cables, tyre inflator/repair kit, and even a reflective vest. Hopefully you never need it—but you’ll be grateful if you do.
6. Plan your route and rest stops
Holiday traffic can be unpredictable. Give yourself extra time, plan your breaks, and keep refreshments handy. Rested drivers make safer drivers.
7. Keep your car clean and organised
A tidy cabin makes long trips more pleasant and helps you stay focused. Plus, it just feels better starting a holiday in a fresh space.
