History in the Making: Kyalami Set to Host Africa’s First-Ever International 24-Hour Race in 2027

South African motorsport fans and automotive industry insiders have massive news to celebrate! The iconic Michelin 24H Series is officially making its African debut right in our backyard at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand, scheduled for 8 to 10 January 2027.

This landmark occasion marks the first-ever international 24-hour race held on the African continent, representing a major milestone for local motorsport and the broader automotive landscape.

Why the Shift to Kyalami?

The move comes as European endurance racing promoter CREVENTIC - the organisation behind the renowned Michelin 24H Dubai - decided to relocate its premier winter event due to ongoing logistical uncertainties in the Gulf region.

When looking for a world-class venue capable of hosting top-tier endurance racing, Kyalami was a natural choice:

  • A Legendary Track Layout: Kyalami remains one of the world's most demanding circuits, boasting challenging elevation changes, blind crests, and high-speed turns that will push both drivers and GT machinery to their limits across 24 straight hours.

  • World-Class Facilities: Featuring 40 secure pit garages, state-of-the-art paddock infrastructure, and premium hospitality suites, the Midrand venue is fully equipped to handle global-scale events.

  • Unmatched Fan Passion: South Africa’s rich racing heritage and passionate automotive community ensure an electric atmosphere.

"Kyalami is an exceptional motorsport destination. The circuit, facilities, and professionalism of the organisation make it a natural fit for the Michelin 24H Series."

— CREVENTIC Representative

This also signals the long-awaited return of premium international endurance racing to Kyalami for the first time since 2023.
